Activation API V1 - De-Activate the License

De-Activate the License

  1. Introduction
  2. De-activating a License with a License Password
  3. De-activating an Evaluation License without a License Password

To allow a User to use the Application on a different device within the Multi-Computer or Seat setting of the License, the License may need to be de-activated on the current device.

Typically, the App would provide a menu item or button to allow the de-activation.

Note that the User can de-activate a device/browser from their License by using the License Manager (if the DNA Product is configured with Level 3 Validation), or you can de-activate a device/browser from any License using the DNA Control Panel.

The App should use one of the following de-activation scenarios depending on the type of License:

  • De-activating a Device with a License Password
    • licenses with "User Authentication" using the License Password entered by the User
    • licenses without "User Authentication" using the Default Password for the App
    • Evaluation Licenses issued with WEB_SendEvalCode using the License Password entered by the User
  • De-activating a Device without a License Password
    • Evaluation Licenses issued with WEB_EvaluateNow

The App can determine if the License is an Evaluation License by checking the EVAL_CODE value in the DNA License and present the appropriate dialog box to the User.

De-activating a Device with a License Password

  • De-activating with a License Password

The App should ask for the License Password to allow the de-activation and then use the WEB_Deactivate   API call

  • De-activating without a License Password

This case applies to an Evaluation License issued by WEB_EvaluateNow where the User does not know the actual Evaluation License Code or the License Password as the License is generated and activated immediately.

The App can de-activate the device using the WEB_Deactivate   leaving the licensePassword parameter as empty string.

The App should watch for the following key results:

ERR_NO_ERROR (0)
  • The Device has been de-activated for this License
  • The new DNA License received should be saved (a disabled License)
  • The Application should be closed or allowed to run with limited functionality (a "Demo" mode) or start the Activation process.
dnaError   >   ERR_NO_ERROR (0)
  • The Device was not de-activated as per the error code
  • An appropriate message can be displayed to the User and the Application can continue to run.
  • The new DNA License received should not be saved, and the existing License kept.
