Activation API V1 - Offering Trials

 

You can offer Trials of your App using Evaluation Licenses that expire after a given number of days.

The Expiration Period is set for your DNA Product (ex: 30 days) and applies as the default for all Evaluation Licenses. You can set this for individual Evaluation Licenses up to 60 days.

Two approaches are possible for Evaluation Licenses:

EvaluateNow
  • uses WEB_EvaluateNow
  • the User provides a userEmail (if per Email option used)
  • immediately generates and activates an Evaluation License
  • the User does not know the License Code or the random License Password
SendEvalCode
  • uses WEB_SendEvalCode
  • the User must provide a userEmail
  • the User will receive the Evaluation License Code by email
  • the User activates the License providing a License Password and License Email

For both approaches, you can select one of the following options:

per machineID (uses Node Locking)
  • only one Evaluation License will be issued by <MACHINE_ID>
  • the App must provide the <DEVICE_ID> when calling the API’s
per userEmail
  • only one Evaluation License will be issued by <userEmail>

The EvaluateNow approach is the simplest for the User.

The App can issue an Evaluation License as follows:

The App should watch for the following key results:

dnaError   <= ERR_NO_ERROR (0)

For WEB_EvaluateNow:

  • The Evaluation License has been generated and activated for this device/browser
  • The WEB_EvaluateNow API will respond with a new DNA License to be saved
  • The Application can run

For WEB_SendEvalCode

  • The Evaluation License Code has been generated and sent to the <userEmail>
  • No DNA License to be saved
  • The Application should not run and start the Activation process

Note: if the <DEVICE_ID> or the <userEmail> has previously been used for this App, then the same Evaluation License Code is reused or resent to the User.
dnaError   >   ERR_NO_ERROR (0)
  • The Evaluation License was not activated or sent as per the error code
  • No DNA License to be saved
  • The Application should not run and restart the Activation process
