Activation API V1 - Activation Flow Overview
A straightforward implementation of the software_DNA protection requires only a few Activation API calls that must be
added to your Application code and which interact with the DNA Servers using HTTPS Requests and JSON encoded parameters.
Both the Custom and StreamLined activation methods are supported by the Activation API and summarized here.
Each step is detailed in the next articles.
At Application Start-up
- if a DNA License does not exist on the device, proceed to Activation
- if a DNA License exists on the device:
- read-in the DNA License
- verify the Signature
- if OK, perform a
WEB_Validate
- if successful, then run the application
- if not, proceed to Activation
Activation
|
Custom Activation
- get a License Activation Code from the User and perform a
WEB_Query
- based on the result, capture additional information which can include a License Password (*), a
NEW and NEVER Used Password (**), and License Email
- perform a
WEB_Activate or WEB_Reactivate
- if valid, then run the Application
- if not valid, display an error message
|
StreamLined Activation
- get a License Activation Code, License Password(*) and
Email from the User
- perform a
WEB_Activate
- if valid, then run the Application
- if not valid, display an error message
|
(*) Not required if User Authentication is not used
(**) Not required if Roll-Over Re-activation is not used
Runtime Guards (optional)
- perform a
WEB_Validate during runtime, i.e. in other critical areas of your application
See Runtime Guards
for details.
You have full flexibility to decide what actions to take if any step is not successful. For example,
if the application is not successfully activated:
- The application could stop executing
- The application could run in DEMO mode, and provide a Activate Now
button or menu item
- The application could display a Evaluate button or menu item
- The Software could display again the "Activate" dialog box
You can also implement several options which are described in other sections of this Guide, such as:
- a Trial option using either the
WEB_EvaluateNow() or
WEB_SendEvalCode() API's
- a Deactivate option using the
WEB_Deactivate() API to allow the User to free-up a Computer or
Seat on their License (this could also be done via the License Manager or by you from the DNA Control Panel)
- using the
WEB_INFOTAG() API call to store registration information with the License on the DNA Server
